With a territory of 1161 km2, the Strandja Park is the largest protected area in Bulgaria. It encompasses both the central portions of Bulgarian Strandja, as well as the southern Black Sea Coast (between Tzarevo and the village of Resovo). Within the park boundaries are 5 strict nature reserves which occupy 5% of the entire park territory. These includes the Silkosia Reserve, the oldest in Bulgaria (established in 1933); Vitanovo, Tisovitsa, Sredoka, and Uzunbudjak. Within these reserves, all activities are prohibited, except those directly connected to scientific research. Within the Park there are a further 14 protected areas and 17 natural monuments which can be freely visited. Within these protected areas and throughout the Park in general visitors can enjoy the rich and wild character of these beautiful mountains.
