Gabrovo, the regional centre town, is just 12 km away and the village itself offers excellent opportunities for the development of rural and eco tourism. There are plenty of things to be seen and done in the area. You can visit Etara – an ethnographic and architectural reserve which is just 2 km away to see functioning 17th century workshops, producing textiles, pottery, wrought iron, knives, pastries; take a two-hour hike through the mountain and visit the old crafts-center of Triavna – famous for its wood-carving and icon-painting schools; or drive to the medieval capital of Bulgaria – Veliko Turnovo and the numerous adjoining monasteries. The Sokolski Monastery, just 1 km away, is famous for its period architecture and fine icon-painting. You can have a trip to the hometown of the Bulgarian Rose – Kazanluk and visit the Thracian Tomb discovered there; on the way to stop at Shipka peak and monument and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view over the mountain as well as at the richly adorned Russian church in the village of Shipka. You must certainly visit the ancient capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom – the town of Veliko Tarnovo and its “St. Peter and Paul” church and medieval fortress “Tzarevets”; walk around the residential area of the 15th century aristocracy – Arbanassi /horseback riding is available there/. You must also go to the Dryanovo monastery, built in the 12th century and to the “Bacho Kiro” cave, followed by an attractive hike along a 4-km long eco-path in the woods, surrounding the monastery. You should really see the Troyan Monastery & Crafts Fair – the third largest monastery in Bulgaria, listed by UNESCO in its World heritage list for its exquisite wall paintings; at the crafts fair you can observe traditional Bulgarian craftsmanship, try your skills at pottery and taste a variety of locally produced plum brandy for which the region is well-known.
