Benin City, capital of Edo State, "Heartbeat of the Nation", appears set for a major upgrade of housing accommodations and amusement park, as a Lagos-based developer has commenced plans to build ultra modern estate in the ancient city. The centrality of Benin and its proximity to various geographical regions of the country makes it a source of attraction to real estate developers, added to the fact that the ancient city boasts of large sections of cosmopolitan population even, if it can be well argued that Benin city is a largely civil service centre like many other state capitals in the country.

The development firm, Dexdee Group, has proposed to construct a private housing estate incorporated with leisure park facility. The project, which is called Dexdee County Estate, will kick off between end of August and October and will produce a total of 27 exquisite dwelling units on actual land area of 3.2 hectares. It is to be located at Ekae on the Benin-Sapele Road, which is already popular for its Amusement Park. It is planned to be an exclusive estate, which the owners described as an "oasis of luxury, tranquility and security". It is located next to a leisure/water park, which has been described as first of its kind in Nigeria. The purpose of the estate, according to the officials of the company, is to create a quiet and beautiful neighbourhood for a discerning few in the society.
