Discussions are being held in Stara Zagora on setting up a cluster association of tourist agents, where Shipka is going to be one of the main tourist attractions.Big investments are going to be made in this direction.
Near Shipka are made the two most remarkable discoveries of the archaeologists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.  The treasures have been abroad as a part of exhibitions in Rome and Copenhagen, but now the golden mask of the Thracian ruler Teres (the first known Odrin king) and the bronze head portraying King Sevt III will again be on display in the National Archaeological Museum. The unique find dates back to 5Th century BC and is evaluated to a few million dollars.
The town of Shipka was established 630 years ago in order to protect and support the pass Shipka. The hills were overgrown with dog-roses, that’s where the name of the town comes from – Shipka meaning wild rose.
