The mayor of General Toshevo held a meeting recently with non-Bulgarians living within its municipality, to see what can be made to make their lives easier. A number of good ideas were presented to the Mayor, who agreed to some of the conditions at the first meeting. A small foreign committee will be set up, and it will meet monthly with the Mayor. There will be special room provided for the committee to meet, and for other people to meet with the committee. The municipality will publish a news letter for foreign homebuyers in its area. A teacher and a room will be provided for Bulgarian language classes, which are to begin in July. The non-Bulgarians declared that they will be looking at what they can do for the municipality in return. This is an important step for the municipality as more and more foreign people come to live in the area.
The municipality of General Toshevo sits in the northeast corner of Bulgaria between the city of Dobrich and the Romanian border. It is about 70 km away from the popular Black Sea city of Varna and borders the coastal municipalities of Balchik, Kavarna and Shabla.
Another priority of the municipality is the economical development of the region. As a typically agricultural area, there is well developed farming and in a lower degree – industry. As to the industry manufacture, most developed is the processing industry. The machine-building, the wood processing and ceramics are also developed. During the last few years, the food and tobacco industries were developed in the region. Small and average enterprises for production of tinned meat, cheese, oil, sausages, etc were built. The municipality of General Toshevo has a very favourable location for the gas-main between Russia and Bulgaria. Four years ago, a program for the gasification of objects with municipal importance was accepted. Its accomplishment is in progress. The gasification in private homes has already started as well. The Mayor of the municipality expects that the full gasification will be started at accelerated rates soon.
