The municipality of Lovech has a great potential for developing various forms of tourism. Good climatic conditions, natural and historical places of interest and development of arts and crafts are a good preposition for all year round development of tourism and sport.
Lovech is an attractive tourist center because it attracts with its architectural appearance, rich history and cultural heritage. Authentic vestiges of the past are safely kept here.
There is a plenty of famous monuments.The most popular places are the “Hisar” fortress and the covered bridge, which connects the two banks of river Osam. You can see similar bridge only in two other European towns and what’s more it is the only one on the Balkans.
Lovech’s city council elaborated a tourism development plan for the next few years. This plan includes improvement of the road network that connects the different places of interest in order to make them easily accessible, diversification and improvement of the quality of the tourist services and development of alternative forms of tourism. There is a list of certain measures, which the municipality should take like:
- Including Lovech in popular tourist routes;
- Enlarging the contacts with institutions and non government organizations;
- Advertising and promoting the places of interest in the region;
- Internet marketing;
- Informing businessmen for the ways of applying for programmes of the EU;
- Better coordination between the town council, private sector and non government organisations for raising the qualification of the managеrs and the staff.
- Etc.
Lovech is also a participant in the first session of the forum for Regional Innovation Strategy, which is financed by EU’s Research Framework Programme. The seventh framework programme provides 72 billion euro for projects in the spheres of innovation, scientific researches, technology etc.
Lovech is getting more and more attractive for investors and the town council tries to keep developing its infrastructure.
