Shabla and the Romanian town of Navodari (also on the Black sea coast) were considering the joint construction of fishing ports, which would cost about 1.5 million euro. An 80km road between the two locations will be advertised as a tourist route.
The typical migration for the last years from villages to bigger settlements is not of importance in Shabla and its surroundings. The children of the people who migrated are now coming back to enjoy the beauty of Bulgarian seaside and the quietness of the small town. 120 houses are already bought and are about to differentiate in a new neighbourhood.
Shabla draws the attention of Bulgarians as well as of foreigners. There are already realized investments in the municipality. There is a newly built shooting lodge with a traditional Bulgarian look and a garden, arranged in an English style and also a winter barbeque for the hunters. There are many foreign lovers of hunting who like fowling in Shabla. The area is also popular among fishermen.
Shabla has very nice location – only 80 km north of Varna and 20 km away from Kavarna.
It arose as an ancient Thracian settlement during VI - V century BC. In Roman times the town was a sea port. Today, Shabla is an agricultural centre thanks to its fertile ground and plenty of water from the Shabla lake. The climate is favourable for growing of grain and industrial crops. The oldest light house at the Black Sea coast is located in a small fishermen`s village very close to the Shabla cape.
Shabla and Durankulak lakes are the most visited, the salted Shabla lake is well- known with its medicinal effect and rare bird species.
