Bulgaria will launch the construction of nine small hydro power plants on the Iskar River in Svoge. On June 22, the Government decided to allocate 14.4 ha of land from the state forestry fund for the first two plants. Bulgaria-based VETS Svoge will build the two hydro power plants, called Svarzhen and Lakatnik, on the plot. Svoge municipality holds 10 per cent in VETS Svoge with Italian company Petrovilla Group owning the remaining 90 per cent. The company is committed to restore the riverside flora and fauna. The construction of the first two cascades should be launched in August. This project is of great importance to the future development of the municipality.It will contribute to national development.The realization of the project attracts foreign investments that amount to 40 million dollars US. The construction of VETS Svoge will open work positions, which will contribute to development of versatile business, stimulate the consumption and trade. It will restore the cleanness of the Iskar River. It will also contribute to development of water sports and better conditions for building of a modern hotel complex, better service and attraction of foreign tourists. Svoge is the only town inside the Gorge– situated in the wildest possible part of the Gorge. The Gorge of the Iskar River reveals unusually beautiful views. This nature miracle is enticing place for the fan of the mountains, and for all other people who want to enjoy to the superior beauty of the Bulgarian nature and mostly to the miracles that the Balkan Range Mountain reveals to us. For centuries, the heart of the Iskar Gorge has been difficult to access. The railway line of today was built in 1889 and when this was complete, life in the Gorge started to change. New settlements appeared, new people came in, later came the road. In recent times the most picturesque place on the both side of the river is the most inaccessible, this place is one of the few that succeeded to preserve its clearness.
