The councillors of Dimitrovgrad supported the idea of purifying Merichlerska River. The money for the project is provided by the Phare programme. The mayor moved the motion for that project.The municipality will work out the plan for purifying the bed of the river.
It is also planned to finish the building of the road, that connects the villages Yabalkovo and Krum, in September, reported Tatyana Giuleva from the municipality in Dimitrovgard.
The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works has already sent the money for finishing the repair work of the segment.The total amount invested in the project is about one million levs.The rest of the repair costs 621 thousand levs.
The road is of great importance for the region, because it shortens the travel to four more settlements.The delay of the work was caused by archaeological excavations in the region.
Dimitrovgrad is located at 100 m above sea level in the very heart of the upper Thracian plain, on both banks of the Maritsa River. he town of Dimitrovgrad was officially founded on 3 April 1947 when the three villages – Rakovski, Mariino and Chernokonyovo were united. Dimitrovgrad is one of the most planted with trees and shrubs towns in Bulgaria. 1900 dca of parks and gardens and 2750 dca of forests were planted there. The oldest park Nikola Vaptsarov is situated just next to Slavianski residential quarter. In the west part of the park there are children's nooks with swings and an open-air theatre. The Planetarium is situated at the top end of the park.There are also Maritsa Park - situated on the right bank of the river Maritsa on a magnificent river terrace and Penio Penev park, named after the poet who has glorified the town of Dimitrovgrad,which is the most interesting and picturesque.
