A resort complex will be built near the Kom peak which is situated in the Balkan Range and is only 35 km away from the town of Montana. The future winter resort will be built on 630 000 sq.m. 283 000 sq.m. of which are forests. The building is planned to start in the year 2007 and to be finished in three stages, relevantly until 2009, 2013, and after 2013. The project is to the total value of 96.4 million Euros. Apart from that, 54 million Bulgarian Leva will be needed for the improvement of the infrastructure in and near the resort.
The project for the building of the sport-tourist complex includes the construction of five big ski-tracks, 6 ski lifts, hotels with 4700 beds, a track for sledges, shooting gallery and a racing track for biathlon , as well as a snow stadium. The project includes also eco routes and an eco park “Kom”, as well as routes for bicycle tourism routes, etc.
Initially, the ski-tracks will be 13 400 metres long, with tendency and possibility to be extended up to 25 km. From 2500 to 3000 will be able to descend at the same time on it. The total length of the transport equipments will be 33 km. At the moment the existing ski track is 800 metres long and there are two stationary ski-trailers.
The ski track of Kom will be accessible through the present existing road, but it will be widened and thoroughly renovated. The electricity supply will be double protected. New water supply, drainage and sewage systems will be built in the complex.
According to the licensed Company for eco evaluation of the project, one of the biggest advantages of the project is that it is in absolute conformity with the requirements for the conservation of the environment, and that the surrounding nature will be maximally preserved in its pure look, by avoiding congestion and exceptive construction, which is typical for other resorts. There will be no chemical used in the making of artificial snow, but it will be produced by new technology with high pressure. This is because the area is a catchn ent for drinking water. This project has the full support of the government.
