Bansko is spread over the most beautiful and majestic part of Pirin Mountain in the southwest of Bulgaria, near-by the Glazne River. It is located just 160 km. away of Sofia and 6 km. away of Razlog. The town has been built on the place of an old settlement, consecutively inhabited by Thracians, Romans, Byzantines and Slavs. The remains, that were found here, such as ancient fortresses and Thracian tumuli, as well as consecrated grounds, churches and chapels testify to several historical epochs. A great number of water mills, sawmills, fulling mills, workshops, etc. were built along the Glazne River’s downstream.
