Melnik
Melnik is the smallest and one of the most fascinating museum towns in Bulgaria. Nestled amongst the lowest southwestern fold of Pirin, it is a town, which attracts great interest among the people looking to buy Bulgarian properties and mountain property in Bulgaria. The town can give various opportunities for a significant return on land investment in Bulgaria or property purchase by renting them out through the services of a serious company for property management in Bulgaria. Furthermore, it is a town, which will definitely attract the attention of the interested in buying cheap Bulgarian real estate or rural property in Bulgaria, which the town and the surrounding area are full with.It is also a town with a long history. Perhaps, it was the ancient Thracians that laid the foundations of the city. The cobbled streets witnessed in a row the march of Slavs, Bulgarians, Greeks, Romans and Turks.
Very few people know that the picturesque town, snuggled between the hills today, was an important economic center once. Those who are willing to buy property in Bulgaria, have a lot to see – unique architecture and houses, as well as the old churches St. Nicholas (13th century), St. Nikolai, the Miracle Worker (1756), St. Peter and Paul (1840), St. Anton. The unique architecture of the place and the nearby Rozhen Monastery (located 6 km southeast of Melnik) make it a popular destination for Bulgarian and foreign visitors, interested not only in tourism, but in buying property in Bulgaria as well. Interesting architectural landmarks include the Byzantine House, one of the oldest civil buildings in the Balkans, the Kordopulov House, which also has one of the largest wine cellars in Melnik, the Pashov House (1815), which houses the Historical Museum of Melnik and the Pasha's House, built by Ibrahim Bey, one of the richest beys in the region, during the Ottoman rule.
The nature around Melnik is truly amazing. Impressive and austerely splendid, the Melnik pyramids rank among the most remarkable natural phenomena in Bulgaria. On the area of 17 sq. km (near Melnik, Rozhen and Kurlanovo) millennia-long erosion has chiseled this unusual world. The sheer screes and the limited terrain compelled people here to fight for every square foot of land. That is why the Melnik houses seem perched one above the other, so close as though they are whispering something to each other. They are preferred mainly by foreigners who have never seen such houses before and always come back here to look them again, ready to choose one from the variety of property for sale in Bulgaria.
To cope with the slope, people here built their house basement of stone at several levels where the thick wine matures. Above is the storey, towering gracefully, projecting and supported by many cantilevers. The white facades are framed with dark boards and the windows are grouped several together in an elegant fashion. The interiors usually exhibit ceilings of carved wood, decorated fireplaces, decorative cupboards of coloured wood, murals and even stained glass. But apart from the generally typical features, every house here has an individuality of its own, its own history and life.
Melnik has also been famous for its strong wine ever since 1346. The local wine was reportedly a favourite of Winston Churchill’s. This is why Melnik is the best place for the Bulgarian property buyers, who also like wine.
Melnik has a moderate climate; it is favorable for medical treatment of chronic pulmonary, kidney, and rheumatic disorders. The visitors and the people looking for Bulgarian real estate will love not only the fine weather, but the various opportunities for entertainment as well. Those who are fond of sport can enjoy different trips and excursions; even golf in Bulgaria is getting extremely popular in this area.
